From 1st November 2021, ASIC has implemented the new Director Identification Number (DIN) regime. All company directors must apply for their own DIN which is a unique 15 digit identification number issued by the Australian Business Registry Service (ABRS).
What do you need to do?
You can apply for your DIN from 1 November 2021. If you are becoming a director, you can apply before your appointment. All existing directors have until 30 November 2022 to apply.
Applying for the Director ID
All directors need to apply for their DIN on their own using their MyGov. The following link can be used to apply for the DIN https://www.abrs.gov.au/director-identification-number/apply-director-identification-number
If you are unable to apply using your MyGov, you will need to contact the Australian Business Registry Services on 13 62 50 and provide your Tax File Number and identification documents.
Documents Required
- your tax file number (TFN)
- your residential address as held by the ATO
- information from two documents to verify your identity.
Examples of the documents you can use to verify your identity include:
- bank account details
- an ATO notice of assessment
- super account details
